Personal choice, for sure. I've been in three situations that made me pack and leave, all involved firearms but not mine.
First, Mr. City Guy that thought it would be OK to shoot Yogi and Boo-Boo while they were meandering down the hill for their evening trash raid at Yosemite park. This idiot had a chrome plated revolver and was standing inside his RV with Wife and family inside.
Second, drunken reveler discharging into a campfire late at night with lots of young folks nearby.
Third, group of young, drunken city kids arriving at campsite at 3 AM and trying to count rounds of .357 (until they broke their third lantern). They all passed out before any firing but I pulled stakes early the next morning.
If I was camping off-grid in the Western States, I might have a weapon. If in a campground, probably not. My situational awareness is still pretty good.
