As to the OP, you got some good advice,in an earlier post.If you decide to get a gun, take firearms training and know when and where you can carry.

Red...oh, ridiculous! Hey, I was a Boy Scout too, as well as a Scout leader! At no time did " be prepared" include carrying a weapon in case you have to kill someone.

This is a serious question......did you, or anyone posting here, ever feel like they had to draw a weapon in a campground? Remember, if you pull a gun, you are prepared to take a life.....kill! Really? Where the hell are you guys camping!?

I do not think the issue is "are campgrounds safe". Why is that any different than the local grocery store? or gas station? or where ever else you go. They are all made up of people we have not met before usually and we have no idea of anyones intentions at any time. I have never felt unsafe at any of these places yet I choose to be "prepared". I always have it on me to prevent theft, as long as I have it no one else can get it....at least without a fight.

To arm yourself or not is a personal decision and takes a commitment to training and researching the laws of the states you will travel to. There are states I will not go to because of their stance on my right to self defense..... if only they were so staunch about safegaurding that as they are about what bathroom I should use I might spend some time and money with them. Again, personal decision.
Having a firearm is not force field against bad things happening to you and the
fact is we never know when disaster (or evil) will strike..either be prepared and have a chance to protect yourself or be willing to be a victim. Personal choice.

Crazy hillbillies. I've run into more of them than stickup men. And in any event a public display of a gun is more likely to prevent an attack than a hidden gun.

What are you scared of? CPL holders undergo background checks and are proven law abiding citizens. It's those nasty criminals you need to worry about and they conceal their weapons too...

Campgrounds are probably one of the safest places I ever spent time. If you don't feel the need to be armed elsewhere, you are even less likely to need a weapon in a campground.

Yes, and many feel those laws are in direct violation of the second amendment.
