I've never had them go stale. I've been using the same cheap paper salt and pepper shakers for a few years now. The only time there is a problem is if I leave them out in the rain. After that you have to pop the lids off and break it with a steak knife to get it to come out of the shaker.
Yeah, Charlie but we're talking about "gourmet" spice dispensers, here. Not the typical ones that work flawlessly for cave men and most normal folks. As I said, punching holes with a fork in the top of a Morton paper cylinder has worked for me for many years. If the holes clog, I break out the fork again.
