Salvage RV's

Where could I find some salvage RV's for a few workers of mine? All I know is copart and iaai but those prices are really high these days. Where do insurance companies bring them besides these places?

  • I don't know where you are, but check with Colaw Rv Parts and Salvage in Carthage, MO.
  • Co-part and IAA are auctions for insurance companies . I was an auctioneer for a Mannheim pool for 32 years . I think that the way to buy a cheap trailer is from RV dealers who take these older trailers in trade . They do not want to sell a $2,000 trailer .Many will have a few scattered around maybe even off site . These will have titles .Many insurance trailers will have no title which can be a problem even on private land . Many local guvs will require a tag on any vehicle sitting around .
  • RV "Salvage" often are RVs being parted out - and/or parts *from* RVs that are no longer usable.

    Google - "RV Auctions".
Auctions will have RVs that dealers don't want to bother with, from trade-ins, etc.
TTs in particular - The profit from the sale of the new RV, has offset any value of the trade-in.
More trouble than it's worth = dump it at auction.

ADESA (& others) have RV auctions in many US states.
You may be able to check inventory via the Internet.

Have seen a travel trailer purchased at a Las Vegas auction -
(IMO) it was probably what you are looking for.

  • Google "RV Salvage" and you'll find more than "you can shake a stick at"!

Some are heavily damaged, some are merely "totaled" by insurance companies because they figure they can get more money by parting them out than selling them outright. If you contact one "salvage company/wrecking yard" most are on a specialized internet inventory system. Cll one yard and he can get on his computer system and do an network search for what you are looking for.

Some have smaller issues such as hail damage, or a small fire, etc.

Google "buying an rv with a salvage title" and you'll find folks from this very forum discussing this subject.

    Good luck!
  • When a vehicle/rv is totalled, the insurance companies put them up for bid. The highest bidder gets to buy the salvage. Many junk yards or even some small repairs shops bid on them for parts or for easy fix ones to resell. I would contact an insurance company and ask them how you can start bidding on their totalled items. I'm sure you would have to be a commercial business to do this. Individuals only have the option on their own vehicle/rv.
