A better idea may be a C Gear sand through mat available through REI. These are an Australasian product originally used as a landing mat for helicopters in desert operations. Sand will actually flow through the mat. This does not take care of sand clinging to the feet but you can brush or wash them off on the mat and have very little carry over.
