Satellite Phone Rental

My wife and I are taking a trip this summer over in Arizona, Utah, Joshua Tree areas and I've been in those areas before where there was quite a gap in cell phone reception. The problem is I will be a few months out of rehab for shoulder surgery and won't be able to do things like change a tire if needed so I wanted to get some suggestions on renting a satellite phone to be able to reach Coach-Net or AAA RV, etc. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts with this?

    I have AT&T and there were a lot of gaps while out there last year. Can't risk it and would rather spend the money that get in a situation.
