Satellite vs WiFi TV service

Greetings, will be on the road shortly and have heard there are several WiFi type service (I.e. netflick; Hulu or Hulu Plus) which enable viewing TV programs and/or movies in place of Satellite providers (Dish so Direct Tv). Any opinions/recommendations. How large data plan is needed? Happy Holidays .

Thank-you

  • If you use an wireless internet provider for streaming "tv" then you will want a large data plan, and hopefully have excellent reception. Otherwise best option is satellite tv assuming you are not parked in a dense jungle. If located near a major locale, many over the air channels are available with just the antenna on top of the rv.
  • As others have said, you will use a great deal of data unless you very seldom use the service. In the long run, it will probably cost much more than satellite service. Our DirectTV with 150 channels and locals cost us less that $70.00 per month. Data service with just a few GB, no where near enough for any amount of streaming, will cost that and more. We have both satellite service for TV and data from Verizon to get on line. Chuck

Marginal at best. You will burn thru your allotted gb of data really fast. You would be better off using redbox.
  • Unless you have a unlimited plan and always camp where you have a signal, nothing beats having a satellite in the remote locals. It's cheap compared to what it would cost for unlimited streaming and connects when there is no data to be had.

  • How are you going to get Internet for those types of service? Satellite TV is your best option for decent consistent television service.
  • A very large data plan is needed to stream movies and such. Streaming a movie can run 2-5 gig/hour, depending on resolution, i.e. SD, HD, etc.
