Got the same thing multiple times a year ago while selling a truck (Two were in the "Navy" and one was a "Marine Biologist" LOL), The way I understood it when I researched it they authorize the payment through Paypal and have their "friend" pick up the item then dispute the charge saying they were hacked or some such nonsense and demand a refund or stop payment.., by then your item is long gone. Not sure on the details but that was the gist of it.
