Scary things encountered

Laying in a hammock outside my camper bout 10 pm just enjoying the stars. Garner SP in Concan Texas. My little dog was tied up outside. I heard him pattering around in the leaves and then he ran under the hammock. So I put my hand down to pet him as he ran underneath.

His tail felt awful bushy. I looked down in horror at the SKUNK I had just petted as he looked up at me in the hammock. My little dog was watching calmly from the rug where he'd been sleeping. That was the longest 3 seconds of my life, until the skunk slowly ambled away.

Well if it was truly Full auto I'm thinking that may have been 1.
Being Ca. Thinking magazine size is a possibility.
State or federal land littering.
I own 22Lr semi auto rifles and often target shoot when out boon docking. When I'm done you would not know I had been there. No Brass no trash. Well maybe a flat spot where I laid my Fat A**.

Back when we tent camped we were in Shenandoah National Park. Without thinking, I had used strawberry scented shampoo. Awoke to the sound of what sound like the biggest dog EVER sniffing around then tent. I always have been very warm when I sleep but don't like to be crowded. Hubby was as close as he could get and apparently I just kept sliding further away until my head was touching the side of the tent. We lied perfectly still and I felt the bear's nose bouncing off my head through the tent. Must have decided he wasn't in the mood for strawberry scented human, and he left. Shortly thereafter we heard a huge "clunk". The next morning we found bear prints all over our car and picnic table. Reported the incident to the park ranger at the kiosk and he said we had nothing to worry about, there were two LEOs with tranquilizer guns ready to shoot if the bear did anything. THAT'S when I felt fear!

On our first trip to w yellowstone we had this irrational fear that bears would and could get into our fifth wheel at night. To thwart their efforts we would flip up the stairs for the evening. On the second evening we were lounging around until I noticed a huge, bird sized, moth fluttering around. My wife was oblivious to everything and continued watching the movie... so I got this great idea.

Moths are attracted to light so I grabbed the flashlight and decided I would stand by the door, turn on the light, and direct the bug out the door. All went according to plan until the moth flew directly at my head startling me. I leaned back against the door which popped open, remember the steps are flipped closed, and fell the full 3' drop landing ribs first on the log lane edging. The door simply swung to its stop and reclosed leaving me writhing in pain with cracked ribs and hurt ego... wife has absolutely no idea about the moth or her genius husband.

After about 10 minutes I drug myself up, pulled out the steps, and made it back inside. She still laughs at me about this to the day. The fold the steps in for safety idea was henceforth ditched and the master lesson of all was learned:

We had some friends who were camping on a lake and they were only ones on that loop. Late @ night someone(s) started banging on their fifth wheel door..they had left the pistol in the truck, but he yells to wife to get the gun and they went away...They said they never heard a vehicle so assumed the group had come by boat...Said they will never stay again where no one else is camped.

We were tent camping at a Northern California Stat campground. I left our food out of the tent in a tightly closed container, I thought that would be OK.
I woke up to something rummaging around in our stuff. I grabbed the flashlight and got out of the tent in just my skivvies. There was the biggest Raccoon I have ever seen eating the Marshmallows I had bought for S'mores. I yelled at the 'coon that he was eating my food and to get lost.
The raccoon did not move he stood up on his hind legs and growled at me. I mentioned to him that I could buy more marshmallows the next day and to have good night.
I went back to bed with my wife laughing at my bravery.

We heard gun fire one night about 200yds away from our rig. The DW says "Why don't look out the widow and see what is going on?" :h My response was "Maybe that's what they're looking for, a face in the window. You look." :R
To this day we don't know what happened.

I'll give ya the littering, clip size law just came in this past year.

We shoot too, but always are remote when we do.

Back in the '70s we were camped at Yosemity Lakes Campground in early spring. We were sitting around the campfire in the dark and first heard and then saw a PU truck with no truck lights on slowly cruising and spot lighting the meadows beside the road. Poachers at work.

Northern Minnesota.. pull into state park...ranger tells us that a 400 lbs sow & 2 cubs have been rummaging garbage & opened a tent last night....we're in a popup camper...we go to bed...2am I hear the bear walking outside... thumps the side of our camper...I pull out my knife... a 2" penknife.. all I have... but if the bear rips the fabric I'll fight back... quiet for a while... THUMP again, it hit the side of the trailer.... then quiet... quiet... GROWL... I hear it clearly right outside of our camper...then quiet...quiet... it is 4am and I drift off to an uneasy sleep... at 6am my wife wakes up and I tell her what happened.. she laughed!! Says to my daughter, sleeping at the other end of the camper, to roll over in bed.... She does so...THUMP... It was my daughter rolling over in bed! But.. What about the Growl? Wife laughs again... the man in the camper next to us was snoring.... we still laugh about that today.
