Scratches

Hi, two days into ownership and we hit branches that have scratched the fiberglass. Is this common? Any hints of what to do about scratches. Many of our roads are narrow so there is nothing we can do about the branches. Thanks.

If they are just brush scratches they can be elimated with a waxing. If they are deep and cut into the gel coat they can be repaired with a gel coat repair kit available at most marine supplies. This consists of gel coat and colorant so you can match your color.

Thanks, can anyone give me a brand of wax. They are not deep. Very superficial. Thanks

  • be glad the branches scraped the side of the trailer and didn't hit the roof and cut the roof membrane!!
  • Most will probably wax out and a good coat of wax will help the branches slide without scratching. If it's new just get wax, not cleaner wax.
  • I find that unless the scratches are very deep, they will wax out.
I carry a hand trimmer with me and if I am in a park with branches hanging where they will scratch when we back in, I use the trimmer and get rid of them.

I am not into waxing all that much.
  • Tree branches don't usually hurt most finishes all that much. If it is fiberglass, the scratches can be polished out, or, like the rest of us, you can let the RV look like you have actually used it to go places and do things....

Nothing YOU can do, but what about the local road maintenance folks?
