Here is a Youtube of a plug patch repair.
Note the drilling process that makes the hole larger to properly size it for the plug stem. The tire guru said my little screw hole didn't warrant drilling through the steel belt. That would most likely weaken the tire more and, again, he recommended a standard patch.
He did seal the hole with adhesive to help keep out the moisture.
They did the best they could for me but it's that "will this cause me a problem down the road" question keeps popping up in my head.
The patch cost me $8 whereas replacing the tire would be $150.
Would that $150 just buy me peace of mind or spare me headache down the road? I have never had a patch or a plug fail on a car or truck nor have I had a plug patch fail on a motorcycle. The ST patch is new territory for me.
