Personal experience: I carry the Safety Seal tire repair kit in the truck along with a compressor. I have had several simple punctures from screws, nails, etc., on both the truck and trailer that I have fixed with a plug from this kit. Never had a leaker and never had any subsequent issues with any plugged tire.
Be careful with tire plugs, I would only use a quality repair plug, not one off the shelf in Auto Zone or Wal Mart.
Not sure why your tire dealer was reluctant to use a plug.
