The patches with plugs attached the plug is smaller and softer
The plug to seal the hole the screw made is larger and harder.. I am told by experts it can force the belts farther apart causing additional damage.
Also, since the plug REMAINS in the tire it CONTINUES to cause damage where as the patch does not.
