I don't see a fix other than getting a 2 1/2" shank.
I have seen this problem on other forums as well. It seems like the common denominator is trailers about 7000 lbs. If that is the case, perhaps the heavier trailers have so much weight distribution dialed in that the friction between the shank, sleeve and hitch is so great that the parts won't move fore and aft. Lighter trailers would not have enough load to bend the pin. Just a theory, but something is going on. I now use a 2-1/2" shank.
