doesn't matter whether you have a 2" or 2.5" with sleeve receiver, if the pin's diameter is much smaller then the diameter of the holes in the receiver or shank, your going to have slop. If you install your shank into the receiver install the pin and can push and pull and have excessive movement your going to bend the pin or "oblong" the holes in the receiver. You have to check that the holes in both the receiver and shank match in size and that the pin is a close as possible to the same diameter.
I've put some 60,000 miles on my TV transporting TTs, my truck has the 2.5" receiver with the 2" sleeve, no issues of oblong or bent pin. When I pull the shank out, its a chore as the pin fits fairly snug, lots of "wiggling" of the shank to get pin in or out. Put a bolt and nut that's 1/4' into a hole that's meant to have a 1/2" bolt and see what happens.
Are you using a WD hitch? I'm betting not and that's why your not having the issue. The issues on this forum and others are heavy tongue weights with WD hitches.
As I said eariler, my Reese pin that I've had for years bent on one trip.
