second spare?

Hi all
Planning our first major trip with the new (last year) TT and TV. This will be from Ontario to Newfoundland, 6 weeks in duration. What is the general feeling of carrying a second spare tire for trailer and TV?

I think if you hit a piece of road debris that does in one tire on the trailer, it might just do the second one too. Same with the truck. Any experiences like that (I haven't had any)? Or am I just getting the pre-trip jitters?

  • I do not carry a spare unless we will be off road, what I do carry is an adapter so I can use the TV spare.
  • We have always carried 2 spares, we just do not want to get stuck in the middle of no where on some of our long distance trips through the desert heading south...
  • I'd be willing to bet that virtually no RVer carries two spares EXCEPT me. I also incorporate the spares into my tire rotation.
I once had a flat tire about 20 miles into a 1000 mile trip which convinced me to carry the spare for a spare. BTW all the tires are XPS Ribs.
  • I do now, last year had a blow out on a tandem axle trailer, when the rear tire blew the shrapnel took out the valve stem on the tire in front of it and I was there on the road side with 2 tires down. :)
