Secure RV parking Anhinga Trail and Shark Valley (Florida)

Hello,

first sorry for my bad english!
We want rent an RV C25 and go from Miami to the everglades and then to the keys!
We have found 2 very interesting pois in the everglades, the Anhinga Trail and the Shark Valley!

Anyone was there, and can say us how secure is the parking there, because we must let our personal things in the RV!?

Due we go in July, it is too hot there for the RV? We think this should not be a big Problem with air conditioning?

Thanks in advance for your help
  • Mornings would certainly be better than the afternoons at that time of year.

As to the security of the parking areas, I think it's fine. Just lock your doors and don't leave valuables out where they can be seen through the windows.

We just made a trip to that area a few weeks ago, and I posted a trip report in the Truck Camper section of this forum if you're interested.

  • First, thanks for all your good tips and answers!

We can only go in summer, because we come with our daughter and in italy only in summer are feries for 2 weeks successively.

We would not stay a whole day, but only get a impression of the everglades! Therefore, we have selected the anhinga trail! If we spend 1-2 hours there early in the morning, that would be ok, what do you think?
  • The everglades see huge, tropical rains every single day in the summer. Think Monsoon.

Here is the official word from the Everglades National Park: http://www.nps.gov/ever/planyourvisit/wetseason.htm
  • We love the Everglades, and stay there every year in the winter for several weeks.
Do not, I repeat do not got there in July. You won't be a happy camper.

  • No power for your air conditioning in Everglades unless you go to Flamingo Nat Park at the tip of Everglades. OR, stay at a private RV park.

Parking at Shark Valley and Anhinga Trail is right at the ranger stations -- rangers all over the place, and very crowded in spring/winter/fall ... will be VERY HOT in summer. AND, you will see very limited wildlife because it's hot, and the water table is down in summer. RV is relatively safe in those two areas.

There are some parts of the park which are unsafe to leave RV parked - talk to the rangers when you arrive and they will advise you.

If you can plan any other season, you will have better luck. The good thing, you will have NO problem getting Elect HU in Flamingo that time of year if you overnight in the park ...

I'd really, really recommend you go at a different season, and winter is crowded but best for wildlife and climate. Shark Valley and Anhinga Trail are two of the highlights of Everglades, you have that part correct. But, I'd also go all the way to Flamingo as well -- that's a very nice area.

Everglades is one or our favorites - but we'd NEVER go in summer, and we live in Florida. Everglades is an amazing place, and well worth spending some time there -- less worth it in summer for reasons above.

Personally, I'd spend less time in the Keys and more time in Everglades if I were RV'ing the south Florida area. Keys is a great place for boating and fishing -- not RV'ing, unless you're a boating and fishing person while you RV.

Hope that helps -- PM me if you want more personalized info -- we've spent a lot of time in Everglades areas.
