Well we've decided not to mount the Honda 3000 generator to the rear rack on our TT. Instead I plan on leaving it in the bed of the truck that has a topper, or camper shell as some call it. I'd like to mount it so that it can be run with the shell closed up for when we are traveling and need to run it at night for A/C. My question is, has anyone made a deflector for the exhaust so it goes up and not straight out the back? The 3000 doesn't have an exhaust pipe that is easily connected to or I would just make a connector for that.ThanksKeith

The exhaust is just one consideration, you know, the other being heat. Air cooled engines require pretty open ventilation lest they overheat.Personally, I'd just get a hefty cable and lock and set it on the ground beside the truck. But what ever you decide to do, be sure to take into account the need for cooling as well as exhaust removal.

Check EBay I know they make one for the 2000 and I would think they also make one for the 3000. They are expensive.

Keith, we considered this as well...using the generator inside the truck topper. Have not done it. Naturist has valid points...exhaust and air circulation. What I've considered doing is leaving the sliding windows open in the topper. I do not plan on using it while driving...just in the evening. Nice thing is this ensures it is with me and "locked up".If you've got windows maybe consider those vs. tying into the exhaust.

This is what I do with my 2KW Honda EU2000iIt is secured to the inside of my truck bed and covered with a locking folding hard plastic FOLD-A-COVER brand.When we need to use it I just pull it out on the tailgate. Perfect location for my 30AMP Shore Power cable to fit.This generator stays with the truck and goes where we go. Thanks for the replies. Windows and a fan seem like the way to go. I cant see it being anymore a fire hazard than the one mounted in my class A was, unless I leave flammable stuff in there with it while it's running.

Cut a hole in the roof of the topper for a fantastic fan. Open a side window in the topper for cross ventilation. Your generator can run the fan if you don't have wires up there already.

Ran my Yamaha 3000 inside my truck shell. I kept a side window opened and plugged in a small table fan in front of the window. Never a problem.

I would agree, that and the chance of fire! We wonder why there are so many warning labels on stuff, this could lead to one more.

I run a 3K Honda in the back of my truck all the time. I just open the topper door and call it good. Never a problem.

I do similar to Mike except I close the glass leaving only the tailgate open. Been doing it for years and have yet to melt my cap, but then I only have the 2000. Don't know that it quiets it down much, but it is sure easy. I leave it locked to one of the rear tie downs.

We run our genny in the truck cap frequently because I am too lazy to lift it down to the ground. I leave the tailgate down and the cap glass up. With the exhaust pointed out I have never had a problem. It does not get too hot with the gate and glass open but it will stink up the other stuff in the back of the truck.

That's what I was planning on doing and running it off the generator. Also thought about a roof vent/fan setup but like the window idea better.
