Gasoline in way South Texas is hovering around $2.15/gallon. So far.
We did exactly the same thing, traveled 1,000's and 1,000's of miles when diesel was $4.50+ per gallon. I never paid over $5.00 per gallon, I did pay $4.99 as we came out of Canada in Michigan. Fuel in Canada was $5.25 per gallon at that time.
Do we like paying those prices? Absolutely not but we all know fuel is the cheapest thing about a RV even at $5.00 per gallon!
