Care to expand on this?
Not really, I am just of the opinion that if our forefathers thought that what they wrote into the constitution should be changed,or interpreted, or "amended" to suit everyone's opinion, they would ended every sentence in it with, "But..."
I'm sure our forefathers didn't want our constitution changed (well, except for Thomas Jefferson), just like I don't think any group of people who set rules and laws think they should be changed.
However, life changes, situations change, understanding changes, and so on. If laws and rules shouldn't ever be changed or interpreted or amended, then we wouldn't be wearing fabrics of mixed fibers, we'd be stoning adulterers, we'd be arrested for spitting, the rich would be purchasing from the poor with silver, a man who committed a robbery would be killed, a married woman who slept with another man would be killed, a black man and white woman could not be married, a child could be sold, and so on.
Laws and rules must change over time - otherwise we become tied to behaviors that are barbarian, untenable, and/or just plain silly.
If laws and rules were never meant to be changed, eliminated, interpreted, etc., then our forefathers would have been killed for their forward thinking ideas. I do think they would see the irony in suggesting that their laws and rules should be inviolate throughout time.
