If that was the case we wouldn't need a standing army. It doesn't matter what you have in the way of missiles, bombs, and artillery; you haven't taken any ground until it's occupied by your soldiers.

Why does that frighten you? If it gets to the point that most Americans couldn't be trusted to own a firearm then we would have already lost all chance of social order. It wouldn't bother me one whit if everyone who could legally (in Federal terms) own a firearm did.
