It really just amazes me how some people are so willing to give up their rights without even paying any mind to the long term implications. The thought that just because it's a right they don't want to exercise, or feel the need for, that somehow it will be "all ok" because it doesn't affect them. Newsflash people, every erosion of your rights affect you, even if you don't exercise those rights.
How outraged would you be if the government came down tomorrow and said that you are no longer free to speak out against government policies regarding anything? Or we will no longer allow the press to report on governmental activities? All of a sudden those of you who didn't give a rip about your right to keep and bear arms will be outraged. But, it won't matter, because you will have given away your ability to stand up to a tyrannical government. And for those of you who think "our government won't do that" better think twice about that. The world is full of examples of government crackdowns on their population, under dubious circumstances or justification.
NYCgrrl.. if you find the gun ownership stats frightening, you should find even more frightening, the high murder rate and gun violence rates in places like Chicago, that have a ban or oppressive restrictions on guns. But, I suspect those stats won't interest you, as they don't serve your agenda.
