Self-driving home anyone?

It's just too much for me to wrap my feeble mind around and I don't see things going that far during my lifetime. I can see self driving cars in limited situations but a long ways from that to what you are talking about?

I work in the technology field of computers and PLC's. I write software for PLC's and my partner programs for the PC. So I know a thing or two about how software is written, and debugged. We have software that was written 10 years ago, that STILL sometimes turns up a bug that nobody thought to program for. (NOTHING is more dangerous to a piece of software than an end user with time on their hands!)

When you look at all the variables involved in a self driving car, it boggles the mind that they have gotten it to work as well as it does.

It will never be 100% perfect, but I think it drives better NOW than most of the distracted drivers on the road today.;)

I think I will live long enough to see a car that can be bought off a showroom floor that has the ability to self drive. I would also bet that, statistically speaking, self driving cars will have fewer accidents than cars with human drivers between the ages of 16 and 25.

Those sensors for eyesight systems that signal the brakes etc don't work in heavy rain. When visibility is poor for you, it's also poor for the sensors. My friends have one of the best and it still won't work in heavy rains and heavy fog.

I hope that I am not the only one, but I enjoy driving. Not about to give that up to some robot.

IMO it will take longer than we think. I'm talking about the vehicles PLUS the infrastructure being developed to the point where it might be practical. IMO it will NOT reach that level in my lifetime. Therefore, I don't think about it much. I think more about the millions of jobs that are being eliminated due to robots.

How often does your computer have a 'glitch', your smart phone, your TV satellite/cable service, your whatever techy stuff ???

Now think about all those 'smart cars/trucks/MHs' having glitches while out on the road.

Heck 'auto correct' can't even get it right....just read some of the posts on here :B
