Setting up WD hitch with 2500HD

Well I made the change from a 04 1500 to a 12 2500HD. I took the camper and hitch up to a large level parking area close to home to setup the hitch on the 2500HD before we make our first trip. Pulled out my directions and followed them as directed as I had done before..However this time I can not get the front to drop at all unless I bend the heck out of the WD bars. The back only dropped 1"! Played with angle of the ball and different height settings but nothing worked..ended up going back to the exact same setup I had which has the trailer nose down just a tad with a level. To the naked eye it looks level. Am I missing anything?

  • Probably do not need WD for the new truck. And you will probably need to use a scale with the relative weight of the RV to TV.
  • You can only return the front to original ride height on those trucks.

There is a bump stop in the suspension that will prevent you from pushing the front end down any lower than that without breaking something.

Theoretically, you should be able to use the same settings as before, just adjusting the position of the hitch head on the stinger to account for the new truck's ride height.

The physics are the same for both trucks, if they have the same cab type and bed size. The only difference is the amount of rise in the front and the amount of squat in the rear due to the stiffer 2500HD suspension. It will still take the same amount of force to return the front end to original ride height.
  • with only a 1" drop in the rear I would assume there wasn't much of a rise in the front either. Sounds like you're fine to me
