Severe Weather App for Android

Looking for some help. Just got android smart phone by samsumg and will be doing some traveling in the heartland where severe weather is the norm rather than exception. Looking for recommendations for an app that will forecast severe weather as we travel throughout those states? Ideally an app for the phone and Samsung tablet. Thanks in advance. Happy traveling.

  • We have Storm Shield Weather Radio. It will give you weather alerts in the locale where you are traveling. We have traveled from Coast to Coast and have got National Weather notification along the way. It gives you a signal, a written and a voice statement of the warning.
I have not tired the Tornado App. It looks good and is free. Storm Shield is not.
Also have the other ones list in this thread. But they do not have Push Notifications that send a signal to you smartphone.

I like Weather Underground better than Weatherbug. I found that Weatherbug had pretty intrusive advertising, and fewer reporting stations that Weather Underground.

WU has excellent radar images, plus options to show 24 hour rain totals, cloud cover, and sends you alerts for severe weather warnings.

X2. I really prefer Weather Underground, but you have to check and see where the reporting location for the site you input is. I figured that out when the campsite I searched was reported at a weather station 25 miles and 3000' lower than the campground itself. Brrr!

I use the app called Tornado on my I phone... I am not sure if it is available on Android but I love it... I can pick certain places to monitor... AND it will monitor wherever I am at... It gives warnings and other information....

Yes it is available for Android. It was made for Red Cross and you don't need to do anything as it follows where you are. You do need to turn on location services.
  • There are a number of radar apps, like AccuWeather that come to mind. There are others as well which provide real time NOAA weather.

  • Weather bug is a good app. They have lots of local reporting stations for more localized weather.
