Sewer smell in bathroom

update. i was talking to guy who told me that if the previous owner didnt do a good job of cleaning the toliet the odor could impregnate the toilet. He told me to get comet or equal cleaner and fill bowl with water and about half can and let it sit for a about 2 hours rinse and repeat and wipe it down good. I did this tuesday night. checked camper this morning and no smell. Go figure...

Good point because during the plumbing process they drill the holes thru the roof a bit on the large side. With the vent cap it seals out the rain but under the vent cap the large hole lets sewer gas back inside the cabin.

Remove snap cap and seal around pipe under vent cap.

I am thinking thats what i will do. thanks for all the helpful advice.

Time to pull toilet ...take outside AND
*Dissassemble---thoroughly clean---reassemble (new parts as needed)----install with new floor flange gasket and hope smell is gone

OR
*replace toilet

Either way...look into adding a shutoff valve on toilet water supply line while you have toilet removed (then you can turn water to rig back on and have shutoff to isolate just toilet if need should arise in future)

We just spent a week in fla,dealt with the smell the whole time.

Don't forget to add water to the tub drain ;)

A little more info. Checked roof vent,didn't notice anything and really no Oder at the vent. Opened vanity under sink no smell. Open valve on toilet no smell there. It seems like it the the toilet itself that stinks. Is that possible. Like I said earlier the camper had sat before we bought it. We have cleaned the heck out of this bathroom. Looked down sink I can see water in trap. Took that admittance off,no smell there either. Thanks for all the advice. Will update when I find the problem.

My bathroom sink is plumbed to the black water tank - changing the air admittance valve solved my odor issue.

I know that you said you cleaned out the tank. I would suggest that it is a possibility that something formed in the tank and is hardened and that is what is smelling.
Use the cup of Dawn dish detergent and a cup of Calgon water softener followed by at least 10 gallons of water. Let it sit for a couple of days, then us a rinser (a hose with a sprayer end made for the black tank) when you drain it out.

Run water in all of your sinks and shower/tub. Water can evaporate out of the p traps letting odors back in. Gray tank odor can be just a foul as black tank.
