Sewer smell problem what to try next

We have a sewer smell when we leave the gray valve tank open. I have changed the air admittance valve in the bath room and made sure all p traps have water ( sink and shower) no smell in the kitchen. It does not smell when gray tank valve is closed. This just started this year I used to leave the gray valve open all the time last year with no problem . Any suggestions on what to do next other than leave to gray valve closed?
Thanks
  • there is one brand of grey and black tank additive that works to eliminate odors, it's called Happy camper. darn good stuff. I have used just about every additive on the market and since I bought a small tub of this stuff, I threw out the other stuff. we just got a new to us used TT and the people said the tanks were empty, they were not and now that I'm home, and found this out, I put in some happy camper and low and behold the smell is GONE.
