Sewer smell problem what to try next

We have a sewer smell when we leave the gray valve tank open. I have changed the air admittance valve in the bath room and made sure all p traps have water ( sink and shower) no smell in the kitchen. It does not smell when gray tank valve is closed. This just started this year I used to leave the gray valve open all the time last year with no problem . Any suggestions on what to do next other than leave to gray valve closed?

    there is one brand of grey and black tank additive that works to eliminate odors, it's called Happy camper. darn good stuff. I have used just about every additive on the market and since I bought a small tub of this stuff, I threw out the other stuff. we just got a new to us used TT and the people said the tanks were empty, they were not and now that I'm home, and found this out, I put in some happy camper and low and behold the smell is GONE.
