Shoes for RVing

I wear Teva sandals mostly or else New Balance tennis shoes.

I have been wearing Chacos for many years and love them. They are secure, comfortable, washable and can be resoled and restrapped. The pair I wear the most are 10 years old and still look and feel like new. You can ty them at REI. I wore Tevas originally but they have all of the issues you are trying to avoid. In case it matters Chacos are made in the USA. Let us know what you end up with.

Birkenstock is all I wear as far as shoes. Only time that I have not wore Birkenstock in the last 17 years since I retired was at several funerals, weddings etc

Birkenstocks for me as well. If/When they get dirty I use the leather cleaner I bought when I bought them. I have 2 pair, so wearing wet is not an issue.

IMHO; I know what you mean. Many brands become "smelly". I think the only cure
is socks. I'm thinking of the closed toe sandle with the black footsie socks
so I don't look too nerdy!

I got news for you. Any kind of sock worn with sandals doesn't make you look Nerdy. It confirms that you are a Nerd. Heck, you're close to being a Nerd if you even consider wearing socks with sandals. The color of sock worn with sandals is what differentiates whether you are just a Nerd or you've graduated to Dork.

My most comfortable shoes for traveling are Keen sandals. They have a covered toe, substantial sole and I wear them with socks. I always travel in long pants, so no fashion faux pas. However, in practice I usually wear running shoes, for the full coverage. I don't like the idea of sandals when standing in urine in public restrooms (men's) or who knows what at the dump station. I've seen leather loafers with rubber soles advertised as "driving shoes" and those might be a good choice.

In the camper and around the camp site, I wear a pair of slippers from LL Bean.
I wear them with socks. They are extremely comfortable. I have worn them to the store to grab a few things, although the wife and kids usually give me a hard time when I do. I wear them on a daily basis and have gotten several years use out of them. I am on my 2nd pair in about 10 years.



Normal footwear are Merrell's Moab Ventilator Hiking shoes. They are extremely comfortable. Great shoes. First pair lasted over 2 years.

I'm not a big fan of sandals, I usually only wear them at the beach or pool.
I have found the best for keeping clean and odor free don't have a leather or cloth foot pad. I prefer the below type of sandal:

This may or may not be what you are looking for, but I wear the $10 off-the-rack sneakers from Walmart. These are the ones just hanging there, not in boxes. They last 3-6 months for me depending on how hard I use them. They remarkably do not retain smell until right before they are worn out, I don't know why. I buy 2 to 3 pairs when I see them - Walmart rarely seems to have my size in stock.

I stumbled on these years ago looking for reasonably priced sneakers, and discovered not only that they cost only $10, but they fit me perfectly without any break-in period.

Just an idea, as I said I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for.

LOL! Have to agree! What's the point of wearing sandals if you are going to wear socks?

I wear Teva leather sandals a lot. Clean the leather occasionally and there's no smell.
