Short term (7-10 days) RV storage in/near Savannah?

So we are planning our yearly trip to Florida in February, but our favorite campground down there is booked and they have more people on the wait list than they have spots... in other words EVERYONE with a reservation would have to cancel, and then some people on the wait list would have to cancel before we could get a spot. We are still holding out hope, but its unlikely we will get a spot.

My parents are renting a 3 bedroom house and only occupying the 1 bedroom, so we are tentatively planning to camp in Savannah on the way down, leave our camper in Savannah, drive the truck to Florida and stay with my parents, then come back up, pick up the camper and finish our trip with a stay in Charleston, then coming back home.

We will be calling campgrounds in Savannah to inquire about a cost to park our camper in overflow lots for 7-10 days, but does anyone have another suggestion for short term storage?

We are also considering calling RV dealers in the area and seeing if we can store our camper on their lot. In theory it sounds great, but I'm not sure if dealers would assume (or be able to legally refuse to assume) liability while my camper is on their lot.

Any "outside the box" ideas?

Am I the only one who misses the "good ole days" when fuel was $4/gallon and you could just call the day before and get a spot and go camping? When we first started, we didn't plan ahead... we often just made a last minute decision and called down a week or two ahead of time and found places. Now RV'ing has become so popular and fuel prices are so low that you have to plan a year in advance...

  • Hardeeville RV just north on Savannah in Levy SC.
Family owned park, plenty of space.
I stayed there for a little over a year until we bought the house here and got relocated.
I know they rent nightly, weekly, monthly and also rent for storage with electricity.
    843-784-6210.
    15-20 minutes to downtown Savannah.
The entire time I was with them I never had anything go missing even when away for 3 weeks on a business trip. Grills, radio, chairs, fan etc stayed under awning and not touched.

  • Check the storage lots at Exit 29 of I-95 in Brunswick, GA. Exit 29 is only 28 miles from the Georgia/Florida border and both storage lots are about 2 miles from the exit (Savanah is over 100 miles from Florida and Pooler is even farther away). Exit 29 Mini Storage and Southport Self Storage.

You can also check with Coastal GA RV Resort. From time to time I see campers in the parking area for a week at a time. The owner lives in his which is also in the parking area. Coastal GA RV Resort is across the street from Exit 29 Mini Storage.

  • We pulled our fifth wheel down to Exit 29 storage outside of Brunswick, GA and left it for 7 days while we joined our church on a mission trip to Gainesville, FL. Left Gainesville and drove back to Brunswick and picked up the trailer and spent a week at Jekyll Island RV Park. It is just off the interstate, is completely fenced, has dozens of RVs that are stored there, but there is plenty of room to turn around, hook up, etc. I think it cost us $30 to leave it there for the week. This is a bit further south than you asked for, but we had a good experience with them.
