  • TucsonJim - Did it say anything about covering expenses to get you back to where your trip originated? I seem to remember hearing return expenses are supposed to be built into the mileage payment?

I'll agree that the pay is probably low, but has anyone actually contacted a transport company to see what they pay? On the right side of the forum there's often an add from a transport company, but of course it's not there right now. I think I'll give them a call the next time I see it.

That ad just popped up on mine. I went to the FAQ page and here is the pay scale:

Units up to 28' = $1.30 per mile
    Units 28'-35' = $1.37 per mile
    Units over 35' = $1.45 per mile
All units out of Pendleton OR = $1.22

All pay is per "loaded mile". In other words, you are paid per mile while you are pulling a rig.

Try the "findtherightjob.com" website referenced in the article - perhaps you will find additional info there.

  • I'm curious, what sort of compensation do they offer? Probably not $15/hour.
  • Plenty of qualified drivers around, they just don't want to work for nothing.
  • I have often thought about doing 'transport' work. But then, like all things, if you start doing things you enjoy for a hobby and turn it into a living, it is no longer "fun!" It then becomes "Work", and then the thing you once loved, you end up despising with a bitter hatred! No, I'll pass, even after considering this occupation for years now. I enjoy towing MY camper, and I think I'd like to keep it that way!
  • Not surprising at all. The trucking industry was one of the hardest hit in the great recession and now the qualified drivers just don't exist.
  • yeah that was my thought as well. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could do it but just don't think it is worth it.
