I guess it can be done, but it is a tall order for any 1/2 ton truck. Our toyhauler is a couple of feet shorter and weighs in at nearly 10K# loaded with water and toys, without toys it comes in over 8500#s. I have a 3/4 ton Chevy HD and I wouldn't want to tow any heavier than this, although most of our towing is between 6K' and 10K' elevation which certainly effects the power delivered by a gasser. I imagine on mostly flat terrain nearer to sea level you will have better towing results, coming to the mountain west region fully loaded will make for a totally different towing experience.
