Single or Double sway bar

I'm a new camper owner and saw a ccamper at the campground last weekend. The guy had 2 sway bars, one on each side of tongue. Are there advantages to this method? I have one on my trailer, which is 35 feet long overall. It tends to sway a light more than I like it to. Didn't know if the second one would help? Truck has sway bar on axle and airbags installed. Any thoughts?

  • Going back over his first post he states that he gets more sway than he would like.

It would be a good idea to weight your trailer with it packed as if you were going camping so that you can see what your tongue weight is compared to the trailer weight.

Wow, this far in and no one has asked what he is pulling that 35 footer with!

That is a lot of TT, and you should have a stable base for towing it with.
  • Two bars are recommended by the manufacturer for trailers over about 26 feet.

I have two bars, and the second bar eliminates the little "shake" when being passed by large vehicles. It's well worth another $50 or so.
  • My opinion: 35 footer, I'd be looking at a Reese Dual Cam Strait-Line set up or an Equal-i-zer. Hensley if you want to spend the $$$.

From experience, friction sway bar(s) are just don't cut it on a trailer that long.

Most important is proper trailer loading, balance and tongue weight percentage.
  • IIRC two sway bars are recommended for TT's over 26'. You need two, one can't handle the length.
  • I would try it with one and get another if needed. That being said, if sway is so bad that you need two then it would be wise to go over the WDH setup to make sure everything is adjusted and leveled as good as it can be before installing the second sway control.
  • Well, with the second bar you'd get twice the amount of sway dampening that only one bar would provide. For a trailer that long I'd definitely use two.

My trailer is just shy of 27' and I use a single sway bar.
