SkyMed Policy?

Anyone out there have any Pros or Con comments about the SkyMed insurance policy??? It's an emergency agreement/policy when on the road to fly you back home/hopital and provide a way to get your RV back home.

We are seriously considering their policy.

Thanks in advance for you thoughts and input.

Of all the options listed SkyMed is the only GOOD ONE.

Gee, I'm happy someone stepped up and ended all doubt!
    (PS...I have MASA) :-)

Your welcome. I am sure you will change when your MASA membership is up

There was something on the news recently about some problem with them. Might need to check it a bit closer. Something about folks ending up with a huge bill.

the "problem" is the huge charge for air ambulance services that many insurance companies are only covering a small portion of.

FMCA ASSIST HAS SO MANY GOTCHA's it is almost impossible to use.

SkyMed the only one with no gotcha's

Could have saved yourself a LOT of keyboard time!..:R

With a 5th wheel - It *IS* IMPOSSIBLE for the OP to use FMCA - even if he wanted to...:S

Oh really? Just went to sign up and there looks like plenty of "gotchas" to me
  • In addition to the discussions above and the various pros and cons, if you have a premium credit card, check the benefits they offer. Air ambulance service is provided by several credit cards, at various levels of service. Since the benefits can vary by card, it's best to check with the issuer to see what will/will not be covered in case of an emergency. This benefit likely should not be your sole source of coverage, but it's good to know that the benefit exists on the premium cards. Consider this as supplemental rather than primary coverage.
  • Check CoachNet - their policies can also provide Evac/rig return insurance. Was much more economical for me to pay a little bit extra on a policy I already had than to shell out an extra $100 a year to Good Sam (I had their plan for 2 years). SkyMed likewise has plenty of clauses (been thru their sales presentation too) - would opt for MASA before them, but since it is insurance, and I hope never to need to use it, I'm happy with what I have between CoachNet and FMCA (no 5er here...). I went with MASA out of Flordia.
When my wife died (in SC) they paid for the fuel for me to drive the Motor home (With her ashes) back to MI for interment. They paid promptly and with no argument, I just E-mailed them PDF's of the fuel reciepts.

They will also pay a porter to drive, but since I drove they did not pay me.

They would have paid to fly her back to Detroit (home) for recovery and treatment had treatment and recovery been an option (Traffic accident, instant death).

If you are in an accident or get sick, now-a-days your health insurance likely will NOT cover all the ambulance ride.. MASA will pick up the rest.. MOST companies require you call them before you call the ambulance, MASA you can go to hospital today and call 'em from your bed tomorrow.

There is a lot more. but you will need to visit their website.
  • As I related over on the Escapee's Forum....MASA is no pressure, you either buy it or not. Skymed on the other hand gives you the high pressure business(not really high pressure) but they always give you the, "if you buy today, this minute, this is the price you'll pay" which I can do without. I think both products are about the same but MASA just seemed, to me, to be the better product/deal.

As was previously related, I hope I never have to use it and I also hope to get enough year's out of it(lifetime....meaning, God willing I live a few year's more) so it all seems worth it for the peace of mind.
  • If your big concern is getting you out of an emergency, into care, and then home along with spouse, consider getting a spot messenger along with the GEOS medivac policy. reasonably inexpensive, but they will transport you from almost any location in the world.

But IIRC, they won't transport the TV and/or trailer or motor home.

We have the spot and GEOS, luckily haven't had to use the emergency part, but the spot comes in very handy to send out an "ok" or status update when we aren't near any cell service, which for us, happens quite often in remote camping areas.
