Slide coming out while traveling

Our small closet slide-out in the bedroom has been coming out about 3 or 4 inches while we go down the highway. This is a small slide-out for our bedroom closet that is a little over 5 feet wide.

For traveling, we put two travel bars in the top to hold the slide. But the slide starts coming out on the bottom which creates space at the top and the two travel bars slip out of position. This allows the slide-out to start coming out 3 or 4 inches. It is alarming!!!

How can we keep the bottom of the slide in so the travel bars do not fall out?

We have an a 2009 Arctic Fox 5th wheel, model 27-5L.

Thanks,
Don
  • If the slide out is electric then you need to adjust brake clutch on motor.

Do you have to install travel bars at top vs middle or bottom??

Install 2 sets of travel bars...top & bottom??
(Home made bars......wooden closet rod cut to length tight with rubber tips on each end)
  • I'm like 99.999% certain your slide is electric driving cables (what Northwood usually uses on the small bedroom slide). If my brain is working, there is a covering under the slide that you will need to remove to do this

An adjustment is the fix, on Tuesday call the factory and have Rick tell you how to do it (probably e-mail you instructions).
Or take it in for service.
  • Thanks for the information. We will look for the brake lever to see if we can adjust it.

UPDATE: WE FOUND IT! The brake was not engaged. There is a level on the motor and a label telling which way is engaged and which way is released. PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks for your advice!!!!!

  • Glad you solved your problem. We had a slide start to come out while driving down the road in a 5th wheel we owned. We found that in the box where the in and out button was, a screw that didn't belong to anything was rolling around. Scary.
