I suspect the type of slide drive mechanism you have will have some bearing on whether you think the seals need some cleaning, conditioning, and lubrication or not.
I can hear a very noticeable difference in the sound the drive motor makes when the slide seals are dry, dirty, and dragging on the sides of the slide. I actually spray Pledge on the slide seals, and the sides of the slide itself. And of course wipe it all down before moving the slide.
The motor sure sounds happy afterwards.
