- pianotunaNomad IIIHi pitch,
Your inability to ask questions astonishes me, it might be better to ask how I drive before jumping to unwarranted conclusions.
I pull over any time there are 3 or more vehicles behind me to let them pass. I've only had one fellow honk at me in 12 years--and that was because I was dragging 100 feet of extension cord behind me.pitch wrote:
Do not use an SMV triangle, you will be ticketed. Under 45 mph use your flashers. I am sure you are used to tailgaters, the one finger salute, and road rage if you really drive as you describe.
Your lack of consideration for your fellow motorists is astounding. - PopsieExplorerInstead of driving slowly on a limited access/high speed road, try driving on the back roads.
You'll probably find that you will enjoy your travel more with lower stress.
you're obviously not obsessed with getting to your destination as soon as possible like some RVers are. - pitchExplorer IIDo not use an SMV triangle, you will be ticketed. bumpy - pianotunaNomad IIIHi nomad,
$20 isn't a dime, it is a nice supper for one. The savings are 11% on my fuel bill, and I drive about 1600 kilometers per month (1000 miles) on average. I won't be driving faster than 80 kph (50 mph) in any event, and I avoid interstates as if they were the plague.nomad297 wrote:

Bruce - popeyemthExplorerPianotuna, what is the speed limit there?
If memory serves me right it's 55 MPH in most of Canada but I'll confess it's been a few years since we visited. - nomad297Explorer

Hi,
The issue stems from fuel mileage. If I drive 78 kph (49 mph), I get about 26 liters per 100 k (9 mpg). If I drive 80 kph (50 mph), I get 29 liters per 100 k (8 mpg). One would hardly credit such a huge difference for such a small change in speed--yet it is quite real.
Since, where I live, I pay 1.279 per liter ($4.84 per US Gallon), for a day where I travel 500 kilometers it saves a tidy sum of money.
Don't try to save a dime at the expense of everybody else on the highway.
Bruce - AH64IDExplorerIMHO if the speed limit is 75 there is a bigger safety margin going 65 (as allowed by ST tires) than 55.
I agree on common sense, going slower is not always safer.
Here in Idaho they are considering raising the truck speed to 75 from 65 to better match the flow for safety.
Obviously that doesn't do any good on ST tires, but it's a start. - popeyemthExplorer"...Going 20 under (55 in a 75) is just as dangerous as 20 over. ..."
But common sense must prevail.
Often folks in a hurry or excited about vacation will use the excuse "...keeping up with traffic .." To drive 70 and faster - pulling a camper with ST tires rated for a MAXIMUM of 65 MPH and on the next trip are reporting on here that their "China Bombs" exploded and ripped the side off their camper-all the while not knowing they set the stage for that by "..keeping up with traffic.." And started the separation process then.
If common sense does not prevail,Murphy's Law certainly will.
Drive a reasonable, safe speed and don't worry about things you can't control.
