- LowsuvExplorerBecause a " slow moving vehicle " triangle is not legal in all 50 states for this purpose the RV bumper could display the DOT approved reflective tape instead .
The kind that is 2 inch wide and has alternating red and white reflective segments that is now found on every commercial trailer .
Because I tow a 21 foot trailer with a turbo diesel pickup I rarely impede traffic .
But on many trips that will occur .
If I have a car behind me when I get to a straight where I can see that there is plenty of room in the oncoming lane to pass I will pull over a foot or two to the right and slow down so that the vehicle(s)can get around me easily .
This is a condition of living near 2 lane US Highways .
Freeway drivers may not have had this frequent issue and are not conditioned to this practice .
Fulltime 2 lane US Highway drivers can be spotted for another practice especially in winter .
They always give extra car lengths when following another truck than the freeway driver crowd .
On a 2 lane highway you have nowhere to go but the ditch if the truck you are following too close slams on his brakes to avoid a deer . - notevenExplorer III

Must be lots of snow on the ground still in Canada. One mile per gallon with a 1 mph difference in speed is preposterous. Yet it genereated 7 pages of comments as if it was for real.
Preposterous if an efficient, powerful diesel engine.

- notevenExplorer IIIMy fave are the people who putt putt along on the narrow hilly two lane sections, then floor it like goin' green at Daytona when they reach "passing lane" section.

On the serious side, no, I am not one of those doing 55 in a 65 zone. I am more likely to be set at around 63/64, the speed the truck gets into & stays in top gear comfortably.
now that is the type of person who infuriates me. dawdles along at one or two mph under the limit blocking traffic from moving at the legal speed. the fuzz gives us 65, either drive it or get out of the way.

No. I just happen to spend most of my working day on the road and I have no respect for those on the road who think that nobody else matters. I have places to be and I don't have time for people in front of me to be sightseeing at their own leisurely pace. Drive the speed limit -- there are others on the road besides you.

There is the speed limit, which is the maximum legal speed, not the speed that any individual is required to drive…
Then there is the minimum speed limit which is the minimum speed the law allows one to travel…
Anything in between is legal and it is the responsibility of each driver to drive between the two limits and to do so safely…
Each driver is responsible for the safe operation of their vehicle, even if it inconveniences you…
Poor planning on your part does not and will never create an emergency on the part of another driver…
if you just happen to spend most of your working day on the road, planning becomes even more important for you, but it is still your responsibility to do that planning, it is not the responsibility of the sightseer or someone driving at a leisurely and comfortable pace to see to it that your planning is not required or needed…
your comment, sounds like the ultimate nobody else matters, and while you have no respect for the slower driver, it sound as though you do precious little to earn the respect of others either…
That was expressed more elegantly than what I was going to post...... - rhagfoExplorer III

We live in the center of Oregon where we have to travel two lane US highways and the nearest Interstate is 140 miles away .
Interstates have more straights than 2 lane US highways .
This is further complicated because we have to climb over the mighty Cascade Mountain Range to get to the population centers which are along Interstate 5 .
The most frequent problem is that 15 % of the people that live along Interstate 5 automatically slow down when they get onto the two lane US Highways such as US 26 , US 22 , US 20 and US 97 .
Those folks impede the progress of the Central Oregon residents by travelling under the 55 mph basic speed in Oregon .
The problem is that the folks that crash are not the folks impeding the flow of traffic .
Instead , the folks that crash are those that have to pass those impedants on the 2 lane highways that we have .
Life is not fair .
The impedants take the high road in their argument , saying the other guy was going too fast .
The other guy was content going 60-62 which is the normal speed on US Highways in Oregon .
The other guy only had to go 75+ in order to pass the impedants .
The wrong guy crashes because the impedant chose to be the lowest common denominator driving our 2 lane highways .
A slow moving vehicle sign will not help .
Pulling over when a line forms behind you will .
That actually will happen on occasion .
It is refreshing when it does .
Boy talk about hitting the nail on the head!
I tow 26 and 18 to the coast, I can move at 60 both down hill and up hill (55 mph speed limit) I travel at a speed that many are content to stay behind me when a passing lane comes along.
Nothing frost me more than the driver that you see well back in your mirror at the start of a passing lane that speeds up to 70 to 75 to get past, then slow down to 50 once in front of me.
These people are driving little cars and always hug the center line (on it) when crossing a narrow bridge.
Those little cars have a hard time when the road is like this. Yes to those that are asking this is the main state highway from Portland to Seaside and Canon Beach!! There are better sections, but a lot is like the picture below with a 55 mph posted speed, many go 60 to 65+.

- travelnutzExplorer IIWe drive 54-55 on 2 lane highways where the speed limit is 55. 45 where it 45 etc. 56-59 in the right lane on Interstates and I don't care if 20 cars are behind us, we are NOT going to pull off so they can pass as we are doing the max allowable speed or well above the min already.
If a me me me idiot thinks I'm impendant staying within the posted limits, then they can simply plant a big sweet kiss on my posterior. If they are willingly breaking the law by speeding to pass and have an accident, it's their problem not mine so they can deal with it! Interstates usually have a min speed posted and it's usually between 40 and 50 and if the slow vehicle is in the right lane, they are perfectly legal and have every right and are required to obey the posted/written laws just like those staying at NO higher than the posted max. Going even one MPH over the posted limit is breaking the law!
If someone decides to break the law by exceeding the posted speed limit, they, being the illegal ones are the problem and I hope they all are ticketed and pile up, the points of course, and have their insurance drastically increased or are cancelled. Too many points means losing your drivers license as it should and it gets only worse from there if you are caught driving. Please put these unlicensed drivers who are caught in a 6' X 10' room with bars for ventilation and give them 3 square meals of dry bread and water each day for a month min the first offense so they can sit back and relax and think about it! Then double or triple it for second offense. Same with some very hefty fines and court costs.
Maybe they will actually learn something! I sure don't want these morons on the same road with the "law abiding" drivers endangering them and their loved ones by their law breaking antics! Posted speed limits are there for a reason! Maybe return to the 55 limit max nationally as the difference between 55 and 40 0r 45 isn't that great and thered be very little reason the rearenders. Problem solved and think of the fuel we'd save too! - JJBIRISHExplorer
