Smart steering

This is a question for all the Smart for2 toads - does the steering have a lock up like other cars that have the ignition key on the column? I can't get mine to lock up, but I don't want to tow it and somehow it locks one day.

I am confused, are you talking about towing a smart car 4 wheels on the ground? If so you do not want to have the steering wheel/column locked up, it needs to be able to turn as you tow and make turns. If you are not talking about towing 4 wheels down then what are you asking?
  • The smart fortwo does not have a steering column that locks - even when the ignition key is removed.
  • I'm asking because my PT Cruiser wouldn't lock at first. But it did later and I'm dragging the tires that were turned but I was pulling straight. I didn't see how the steering would lock with the key in the center console, but I know it shifts without me doing it as well.

Concur. The 450 and 451 smart cars do not have locking steering columns.

and the obligatory cool smart car picture.
