Our first winter in Texas we met all four of the venomous snakes in the hill country plus several nonvenomous species while volunteering at a NWR. At a New Mexico campground they recommenced checking down under the stairs and making noise before exiting at night while taking the dog out for duties. Rattlesnakes liked to curl up on the warm pads.
