Venom is precious for snakes as they need it to catch food. They have no desire to waste it on you...
Of course, if you step on them or encroach upon them, they are going to defend themselves...
I have lived around snakes all of my life, not just here in FL or even the US. I actually have water moccasins that live around my lake. I have no rats or mice- they can carry too many diseases... I prefer the snakes...
We swim in the lake and my garden is there as well, they won't chase you... They will try to get away from you as they can't eat you. Don't poke them, try to play with them or pick them up. Just let them go on their way.
