Fall asleep first.
This usually works for me for the first four hours. Then, he manages to wake me up. So I shake the bed. Enough to almost wake him up. That usually gets it to stop. If not, I will try shaking the bed again. Often he will roll over and it stops. But, if after 10 minutes it doesn't stop, I know there is no hope; I go sleep on the couch. This is specifically why we got a tt with a hard door to the bedroom on the opposite end of the tt from the living room.
Good luck. It can be absolutely miserable by the third or fourth day of no sleep...
