Do the sleep study. It's the best thing that I've done for my health. I stopped breathing 61 times an hour during the study, and was usually exhausted each morning.
Apparently each time that you stop breathing (probably indicated by the snoring) your body senses that something is wrong, and you release a bit of adrenaline, which causes your body to store fat, which probably increases snoring over the long haul.
I've had a CPAP for 5 years now, and I've lost weight and feel much better every morning.
My wife is thrilled.
