Apnea may not be the cause of the snoring but it is a cause of heart disease. I did not want a CPAP, but after a couple of days getting used to it and finally enjoying a good night's sleep I fell in love with it. The mask and the hoses are not fun but given the alternative, I'll put up with the hassle. My heart attack might not have been caused by my apnea but it certainly didn't help. The first time I woke in a panic because I stopped breathing in my sleep after spending 6 weeks in ICU, I was convinced to try it.
The reason for a CPAP is not to stop snoring, it is to keep you breathing while you sleep. The only way to tell is with a sleep study. During my sleep study I was probably the worst patient they had ever seen and that is NOT my personality. My attitude change shows how well CPAPs work.
Disclaimer, I am not a Doctor but I have been treated by some of the best in the world.
