Snow birding or why?

I drove over 100/miles a day to work before I retired (Michigan). Now I go out when I want to. It definitely makes a difference when it's YOUR choice! The trails and campsites aren't busy; and it's quiet. I've found that even with arthritis it's not bad if you keep moving. It was more snow than usual last week with the polar vortex, so we enjoyed being inside (warm) looking at the outside (cold)! Good time to practice hygge!:)

Ditto! And if/when I go outside in MN bad weather, the blowing snow, the thought of having to get up even earlier than normal to shovel or blow snow, the fun I have when I slip and fall on ice or catch myself and throw out my back...couple all of that with no sun, and I rapidly become less happy.

If OP has a refuge and doesn't have to deal with winter's bad weather then that's less reason to leave.

Woke up to 4" of snow this AM with more predicted for tomorrow. As soon as we can (wife retirement) we will be heading south for the winter.

I'm assuming you are retired.

If your shop is your happy place...stay in your shop.
If you would rather be somewhere else...go somewhere else.

Of course, my parents used to stay at a nice park in arizona...they had a wood working shop that mad my Dad's look sad by comparison. Plus he got to hang out with other guys who did wood working and learned new tricks.

I dislike the short days and cold weather of winter. If I had a heated building I have projects I could work on. We did not have much of a spring or fall last year as well. It would be nice to find a campground in the South that you could do some work on a RV

Woke this morning to 18 degrees, 4 inches of new snow. I hate cold too.

I worked in my shop all day.

They are both bad, when we retire we will be snowbirds. The cloudiness and snow really affect my mood more so than the cold and it can be downright depressing and the older we get the worse is gets. I love the summers up here but winter sucks and like the OP I have a heated shop as well to hang out in. In the meantime I need to find a happy light to sit in front of.

We snowbirded for seven years then gave it up.
The trailer is parked at the cottage and used as a guest house.
We spend five months there.
It's nice to get back to the city and winter at home.
