The guy may be more likely to be exposed to bacteria and fecal matter by simply flushing his toilet.
NSF says "Flushing of the toilet causes aerosols, containing fecal bacteria, to land on items near the toilet (snip)"
Mythbusters tested this and found fecal matter on toothbrushes including ones that have never even seen the inside of a bathroom.
