"Most manual trans vehicles can be towed four down with just the addition of a tow bar (plus the base plate that the tow bar attaches to). Notice I said "most". There are some that cannot be."
From personal experience and reading Owners Manuals, I have found the opposite to be true: SOME can be towed four down, but MANY can not be! That does not apply to front engine/front drive or rear engine/rear drive vehicles.
But, that was a few years ago. Newer vehicles may be different.
Besides, there are ALWAYS exceptions!
IMO, when in doubt, READ the Owners Manual, and FOLLOW the instructions contained therein.
