The "experts" all assume that the person WILL live past 80. In that case, it will usually be better to wait. But what they don't consider is YOU: your health, your personal life expectancy, your personal interests, etc. Your life expectancy could be extremely different than the estimated average.
For me, I'm probably going to collect it early. I've got my retirement funds pretty well set and will be be able to live comfortably in old age. So, the SS will come in handier early on while I'm still physically able to enjoy the things that a bit of extra money brings (travel, etc.).
