I will be taking it the minute I am eligible. You will see advice either way. Not knowing how long I will live, I want to enjoy it while I can. If I wind up living way into my eighties, I guess I'll hit the break even point. If I don't , I will have enjoyed myself while I can. I have a few trips I'd like to do while I am in shape to do them. My SS will allow me to do that. If I wait a few more years, I may not be able to enjoy myself as much.
I've been a rep for our teachers' retirement system for some years. Annually, a Social Security rep came to speak to us and almost always recommended that people take their benefit as soon as they were eligible. I'm taking that advice.
