The people that write these articles must think all us Social Security recipients are rich when we decide to, or must, retire and as such can start taking our SS "anytime".
The whole reason for SS is to provide base retirement income for the vast majority that are going to actually need it when they voluntarily retire or involuntarily get retired.
It would be nice to "hold off" on taking it if you can, but the fact is that most folks need it yesterday when they retire. "Waiting" may not be an option for most of us.
For example, SS is one-half of our retirement income and we could not have gotten along on just the other half while we waited into our 70's for SS to reach the maximum monthly amount.
