That's not the case about SS not going up. It does get adjusted higher each year with inflation. So far and Thank Goodness, the politicians haven't been able to wipe out that SS provision - but they're trying.
Now ... the amount it goes up each year has been small for several years, but we kind of count on our check being just a bit higher starting each January. Every little bit helps.
IMHO, SS is a great program and if it takes more worker paycheck withholdings in the future to keep it strong ... so be it. Taking "personal control" of one's life from early-on is all well and good (... and we did that). However, that SS check every month is real good icing on any cake one may have been fortunate enough to be able to bake in their early years.
